Basic and Translational Research in Signaling Pathways and New Therapies for Bone Marrow Failure Syndromes

An opportunity is available to study signaling pathways and novel therapies for the bone marrow failure syndrome, Diamond Blackfan Anemia (DBA). In addition, there are opportunities to study epigenetic regulation of normal erythropoiesis. Primary human and mouse hematopoietic and leukemia cells, and mouse models will be used. Technologies in the lab include standard biochemistry techniques (Western blot analysis, real-time PCR, immunoprecipitations), FACs/sorting, colony assays, lentiviral and retroviral transductions, transplantation experiments, xenograft models and bioluminescence, CyTOF, RNA-seq and ChIP-seq. There is opportunity to collaborate with other scientists who study hematopoiesis. This position is for postdoctoral fellows who have received a Ph.D. in molecular biology, cellular biology, or biochemistry and have completed their Ph.D. and graduate level training preferably within the past 2-3 years. Funding from a NIH T32 Pediatric Nonmalignant Hematology and Stem Cell Biology training grant is available for postdoctoral fellows who are US citizens or permanent residents. This training program includes a course on Nonmalignant Hematology and Stem Cell Biology, journal clubs, faculty seminars, and career development workshops.

Our laboratory of 5 individuals includes a Staff Research Scientist/Lab manager, postdoctoral fellow, technician, and undergraduate students. Dr. Sakamoto’s research is funded by the  National Institutes of Health, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of America, Department of  Defense, Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation, Hyundai Hope on Wheels, and  pharmaceutical companies.
